Happy New Year

Meetings
Our next meeting takes place on Thursday 26 January at 7.30pm in the Red Lion pub in Eynsham. Guest speaker is piking legend Neville Fickling with his talk on 'Big Pike'. If anybody requires any deadbaits or items of tackle then call his shop (01427 613002) and save yourself any delivery or postage costs as Neville will bring them down on the night.

Our final meeting of the season takes place on Thursday 19 April which is trophy night. Unfortunately Joe Taylor will now be out of the country but I am pleased to advise that Mark Tyrtania has secured Dilip Sarkar MBE as our guest speaker. Dilip Sarkar was an original member of the Pike Anglers' Club of Great Britain, aged just 16, in 1977. A year later he succeeded Des Taylor as Regional Organiser for Worcestershire and has caught big pike from both the Severn and Wye, more recently he has set up the East Diglis Predator Syndicate & Partnership. Well-known for his huge enthusiasm for life and everything he does, Dilip is also the author of 30 books featuring the Spitfire aircraft and the Battle of Britain, for this effort he was made an MBE in 2003. His wife Karen, a renowned angling artist will also have a stand of her artwork on the night.

All meetings are pay on the door. £4 PAC members and £5 non PAC members. All welcome.

I have had some region mugs made and these will be on sale on at the meetings. I have only had ten made to start with and you can buy them for £5 each. I will also take orders for T-Shirts at £10 and Hoodies at £20 if anybody wants one. Each sale will generate a small profit which goes back into the regional funds to help pay for guest speakers and trophies etc.

Fish-Ins
Mon 30 Jan 12 - Orchid Lakes: This is now full and an email will be sent to those on this fish in.

Sun 19 Feb 12 - Blenheim Palace: I will require payment by 10 Feb, cost is £25 per boat (£12.50 per angler). Full details once you have booked and paid.

Sun 04 Mar 12 - Charity Fish-In verses Shakespeare & Birmingham regions (Barford, Warwickshire Avon): The current idea is that we are taking on the Shakespeare and Birmingham Regions. Pike and Predator Magazine have kindly agreed to sponsor this event and have donated a year’s subscription and two books as prizes, but the real object of the day is to help two very worthy cancer charities – Cancer Research and the MacMillan Nurses. There would be a charge of £15 to fish; of this £3.00 would go to the Barford Club and the remainder would be divided equally between the two charities. We hope for a really good turnout, to give the charities a generous donation. There are approximately 50 pegs available and it is planned to have a pint in the Joseph Arch pub in Barford afterwards where food will be available. The event will be covered in Pike & Predators magazine. I really hope we can get a good number of our lads taking part in this event. Please let me know by 5th February 2012 if you would like to take part, we may then open this up to other regions.

Trophies Season 2011-12 (current standings)
Biggest Stillwater pike = 24lb 10oz (Tony Hallatt)
Biggest river pike = 25lb 6oz (Eamonn Deeley)
Veterans trophy (over 60) = 24lb 10oz (Tony Hallatt)

To receive a trophy at the end of the season an individual must have attended at least 2 regional events (meetings / fish-ins). Please report catches to me or Mark Tyrtania, obviously venue details are not required but a photo would be good for the regional gallery.

Finally, a couple of more photos have been added to our Blogspot gallery (right hand side link) Keep them coming!!
